DIGANEX5: Comprehensive Digitalization of Extensive Livestock Farming 5.0
DIGANEX5 represents a transformative initiative for extensive livestock farming through the integration of advanced STEP technologies (Safe, Transparent, Ethical and People-centered), specifically adapted to the needs of the sector in rural areas with connectivity challenges.
The project, led by ODINS in consortium with Secmotic, Rovimática and Ventum, seeks to revolutionize a production model essential for:
- Sustainable territorial management.
- The conservation of biodiversity.
- European food safety.
Distributed digital platform and Edge processing
The distributed digital platform proposed by DIGANEX5 overcomes the current technological fragmentation of the sector through a cloud-edge continuum architecture, in which IoT devices perform local processing with embedded AI.
This approach guarantees the generation of valuable information for farmers without the need for permanent connectivity, a crucial aspect in remote rural environments.
Advanced sensor systems include:
- Devices capable of monitoring biological, behavioral and productive parameters of livestock in real time.
- Electronic scales.
- An integrated surveillance system using drones and fixed cameras.
Connectivity and cybersecurity
The connectivity component implements Open RAN technology and private 5G/6G networks to provide a reliable communications infrastructure, even in traditionally isolated areas.
Furthermore, quantum cybersecurity and blockchain technology guarantee the integrity, privacy, and traceability of the data generated.
Artificial intelligence and advanced analytics
The platform’s analytical core includes advanced artificial intelligence models capable of continuously processing information related to:
- Animal welfare.
- Behavioral patterns.
- Pasture optimization.
- Early detection of health problems.
- Alerts about potential risks.
All this information is presented to the user through an intuitive interface based on natural language.
Federated Learning and Data Sovereignty
The development methodology implements federated learning to preserve the sensitivity and sovereignty of livestock data, keeping critical processing in edge nodes close to the farm.
Digital Livestock Notebook
DIGANEX5 also incorporates a Digital Livestock Notebook, interoperable with the official CAP systems, which allows for a significant simplification of the administrative and certification processes that currently represent a significant burden for producers.
The DIGANEX5 project is co-financed by the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) through the INTERCONECTA STEP 2025 call and by the European Union under the European Funds.
