MNEME
MNEME – A collaborative memory platform for cultural heritage is a Horizon Europe project that validates and improves the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH) through real-world cultural heritage pilot projects across Europe.
Current situation and general objective
In close collaboration with ECHOES , the project that contributes to the development of the ECCCH, MNEME assesses how the cloud can support cultural heritage institutions in practice: from data ingestion and semantic interoperability to AI-assisted enrichment, 3D documentation, conservation annotations, and immersive AR/VR experiences.
Specific project objectives
Through five pilot projects in Greece, Spain, Slovenia, Italy and France, MNEME brings together museums, archaeological sites, research organizations, technology providers and cultural heritage professionals to explore how fragmented heritage collections can be part of a shared, interoperable and collaborative digital environment.
The project uses and expands key ECCCH tools, such as the Collection Capture Tool, the Virtual Transcription Lab, and the Conservation and Restoration Online Annotator, while working with standards such as CIDOC CRM and IIIF to facilitate cross-collection searching, comparative analysis, and shared storytelling.
The aim of MNEME is not only to demonstrate new technologies, but to provide practical evidence, workflows, protocols and recommendations that can provide feedback to the ECCCH community and support wider adoption across the European cultural heritage sector.
