The challenge
Episodes of torrential rain and flooding pose a growing challenge to the management of many cities. In these situations, having up-to-date information on water levels in the most vulnerable areas is essential to anticipate risks, coordinate actions, and improve the response capacity of municipal services.
With this objective, the Tarragona City Council launched a project to monitor different flood-prone areas of the municipality in real time and centralize the information obtained on a single platform.

The solution
OdinS participated together with Dinycon in the design and implementation of a monitoring system adapted to the specific characteristics of each site.
The solution was based on the installation of radar level sensors at various critical points in the municipality, selected according to the technical and environmental needs of each location.
To integrate the different sensors and ensure data transmission, OdinS IPex04 devices were installed. These devices acquire the data generated by the sensors and transmit it in real time to the monitoring platform.

Thanks to the implemented solution, the Tarragona City Council can consult information from all measurement points from a single environment.
This centralized view allows:
- To know the water level in the monitored areas.
- Detect increases immediately.
- Analyze the evolution of each point during rain episodes.
- Identify potentially critical situations.
- Facilitate decision-making in municipal services.
In this way, those responsible for urban management have objective and up-to-date information to act more quickly in the face of adverse weather events.
IoT technology applied to risk prevention
The project demonstrates how the integration of sensors, IoT communication devices, and monitoring platforms allows measurements taken on the ground to be converted into useful information for the management of urban infrastructure.
The collaboration between the Tarragona City Council, Dinycon and OdinS has made it possible to develop a flexible solution adapted to the conditions of each monitored area.
