MasOrange Group, the leader in the Spanish telecommunications market in terms of number of customers, and the technology company Odin Solutions, specialised in the development and implementation of smart solutions, are collaborating on the MAS4CARE project to promote telemedicine and telecare by taking advantage of the capabilities of the 5G network.
Telecare in rural environments
The main objective of this project is Improve the adoption and use of 5G technologies to support older people, or with low technical knowledge, through accessible, simple and intuitive interfaces for access to the information and services available on the medical platform, as well as through Automation and remote administration of medical device and sensor management processes. MAS4CARE también mejorará el acceso a servicios médicos y especialistas en áreas rurales optimizando la asistencia en caso de urgencias.
Innovation in 5G networks
This project MAS4CARE (“MAS4CARE: Development of infrastructures and connectivity services on 5G and Edge Computing for the management and processing of telemedicine and telecare services”) will accelerate the innovation and exploitation of 5G networks and the services that can take advantage of their benefits.
to more than 86% of the Spanish population. In addition, MASORANGE is the leading operator in the deployment of nodes in the 700 MHz band, which represents an important milestone in accelerating the availability of the 5G network in all corners of our geography.
AI and Big Data for better healthcare in real time
Increasing life expectancy and limited access to healthcare services, particularly in rural areas, make it difficult for the Spanish health service to provide high-quality healthcare accessible to all. For this reason, telemedicine services are being promoted that allow patients to communicate with doctors 24 hours a day.
However, these services cannot offer the same quality as a face-to-face consultation, so they need to be complemented with medical devices that allow continuous and real-time monitoring of patients and instruments.
5G emerges in this scenario as the main enabler to respond to the connectivity requirements of different devices, their use and situation, and where the Edge Computing paradigm becomes vitally important to ensure a response with sufficient processing and low latency , in often critical situations (for example, when dealing with health emergencies) and in rural environments with little access.
The MAS4CARE project seeks to boost the telemedicine and telecare sector through 5G technology by means of an advanced medical services platform that allows the monitoring and assistance of patients and nomadic medical units, starting with the installation of a far-EDGE 5G device in the home that acts as an interconnection and management gateway for IoT medical devices. The far-EDGE will also offer the dynamic deployment of services, advanced alert systems, distributed local data processing, improvements in privacy and information control, as well as the optimization of the use of network resources, real-time communications and a guaranteed end-to-end quality of service. In addition, it will enable the use of AI and BigData technology to offer alarm functions for prevention, unassisted decision-making and advice to medical staff, improving the provision of medical and care services.
