Murcia continues to promote its green areas with Irridea Smart

Smart management of green areas in Murcia with Irridea Smart

Murcia continues to advance its digital transformation and sustainability strategy. The city, recently ranked among the ten most innovative in Spain by the 2026 National Report on Tech and Innovative Companies, is taking another step in applying technology to public services with the digitalization of irrigation management in its green spaces.

The Murcia City Council has expanded its smart water management system to cover more than 150 municipal parks and gardens, reaching over 50,000 irrigation points. This initiative will allow for real-time monitoring of each area’s water needs, automate processes, and more precise adjustments to water consumption.

IoT technology at the service of more efficient management

The system integrates humidity, temperature and environmental condition sensors, along with flow meters, solenoid valves and various communication devices connected to a centralized platform.

This infrastructure allows for the continuous collection and analysis of data to adapt irrigation to the actual conditions of each green space, detect issues more quickly, and improve maintenance planning. Furthermore, the information is integrated with the municipal digital ecosystem MiMurcia and aligned with the Smart Destinations Platform.

This project has used Irridea Smart, the intelligent irrigation management solution developed jointly by OdinS and RIVERSA, through Actúa SM.

Irridea Smart combines IoT connectivity, sensors, automation, and data analysis to transform traditional irrigation systems into connected infrastructures capable of making decisions based on real-time information.

Murcia, a real case of IoT application in the Smart City

The initiative reinforces a municipal strategy that focuses on using data and technology to manage essential resources such as water more efficiently.

It’s no coincidence that Murcia has already appeared among the ten Spanish cities with the most technological activity. The report prepared by Scoutyn places the city ninth in the country for the number of technology companies and seventh for the number of startups, alongside Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Bilbao.

For OdinS, projects like the one developed with RIVERSA show how IoT solutions can move from monitoring to active management of urban infrastructures: capturing data, turning it into useful information and using it to optimize resources, anticipate incidents and improve public services.
