Revolutionizing big data processing applications with self-abstracted and self-coordinated cloud-to-edge resources

The HYPER-AI project is part of the Cognitive Computing Continuum Cluster, which brings together seven European projects funded by Horizon Europe: HYPER-AI, INTEND, EMPYREAN, ENACT, MYRTUS, Swarmchestrate, and CoGNETs. Its mission is to revolutionize data processing and services across the cloud-edge continuum, from IoT and edge devices to central cloud hubs, by integrating cognitive computing, artificial intelligence, and intelligent orchestration.

HYPER-AI addresses the challenges of big data processing, energy efficiency, security, and scalability by developing solutions that enable self-abstracted, self-coordinated, and autonomous computing resources, with self-configuring, self-healing, self-optimizing, and self-protecting capabilities.

Main objectives

  • Develop a cognitive computing framework that integrates cloud, edge, and IoT, enabling autonomous coordination of distributed resources.
  • Implement Swarm Computing and AI techniques for dynamic allocation and optimization of computing resources.
  • Ensure end-to-end security in distributed data processing and applications.
  • Promote interoperability and open standards, aligning with the European Association for AI, Data and Robotics.

Strategic applications and sectors.
HYPER-AI advances will impact key sectors such as:

  • Industry and logistics: optimizing operations and fleet management through real-time data analysis.
  • Remote healthcare and critical services: secure processing of sensitive data from edge devices.
  • Smart cities and energy management: supporting urban IoT and smart grid applications.
  • Research and data science: high-performance, real-time simulation and analysis.

Expected impact
HYPER-AI is expected to foster a reliable, autonomous, and scalable cloud-edge continuum, capable of offering self-managed computing resources that optimize efficiency, performance, and security. The project’s results will be based on replicable and open methodologies and software, promoting the adoption of distributed cognitive computing in Europe and strengthening the competitiveness of companies and research centers across multiple sectors.
