EDS4Agro is a unique and innovative initiative that has the potential to transform the agri-food sector through the creation of an advanced, interoperable, and sustainable Data Space. This project not only addresses current challenges facing the sector, such as resource optimization, environmental sustainability, and improved competitiveness, but also introduces a new data management and sharing paradigm based on cutting-edge technologies. The proposal aligns with national and European strategic priorities, integrating international standards and frameworks such as GAIA-X, DBSA, and FIWARE, and promoting collaboration between public and private stakeholders.

The uniqueness of EDS4Agro lies in its modular and federated approach, which facilitates the adaptability of the data space to different agricultural contexts and specific needs. Furthermore, the proposal adopts disruptive technologies such as advanced cryptography and data governance, identity and trust management, to ensure data privacy, quality, and security. The implementation of advanced mechanisms for data governance, traceability, and monetization positions this project as a benchmark in the agricultural data economy, with a direct impact on improving productivity, reducing costs, and ensuring the sustainability of the sector.

Furthermore, EDS4Agro plans to interconnect with other data spaces and international initiatives such as the GAIA-X infrastructure, the Common European Agricultural Data Space (CEADS), and considers synergies and alignment with international projects (e.g., AgriDataSpace) and national data spaces (e.g., C3-SIGCEX1) and those funded by SEDIA in the previous call (e.g., the CD-EDAA2 demonstration center at the University of Malaga). This approach ensures that project outcomes are scalable nationally and internationally, and also contribute to the development of an integrated and sustainable data ecosystem.

The project is funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan through the European Union’s Recovery Fund – NextGenerationEU, in the second round of aid for the Sectoral Data Spaces Programme for the digital transformation of strategic productive sectors through the creation of Data Sharing Spaces Demonstrators and Use Cases.
